Study site locations: Michigan - Zebra mussels are a vector for increased contaminant exposure - Lesser scaup

Selenium in lesser scaup liver tissue was elevated in  ducks wintering on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair to the point which compromised mallard duck health in laboratory studies.  The effect on these lesser scaup is unknown, however, with out further study.
