FILENAME: STL_WDAMS DOCUMENTATION DATE: JANUARY 25, 1995 DATA THEME: WING DAMS DESCRIPTION: Wing Dam centerlines as arcs. ABSTRACT: This coverage contains arcs representing the wing dams on the Mississippi River starting at river mile 0, at Cairo, Il, to river mile 300, at the border between the St. Louis District and the Rock Island District. Each arc represents the centerline of the wing dam as detailed on the 1 inch = 400 feet scale hydrographic survey sheets maintained by the St. Louis District. STATUS: 90% done GEOGRAPHIC AREA: Mississippi River, St. Louis District. MAP PROJECTIONS: Universal Transversal Mercator (UTM) zone 15. MAP UNITS: meters DATUM: NAD27 SOFTWARE VERSION: ARC/INFO v. 6.1.1 Sun Sparkstation INTENDED USE OF DATA: This data was designed to be used as a means to locate wing dams in the St. Louis District and to be able to quickly access information pertaining to that wing dam. LIMITATIONS OF DATA: The levee centerlines were digitized off of USACE St. Louis District Hydrographic Survey Sheets (scale 1 inch = 400 feet). The accuracy is estimated to be within 15 feet of its true location. COVERAGE DEVELOPER: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District CORPS CONTACT: Thomas DeWitte, US Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Operations Division, Clock Tower Building, P.O. AUTHOR/AGENCY: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers PUBLISHED DATE(S): Hydrographic photo 31 January 1989 SCALE: 1:4800 PROJECTION: Missouri East Stateplane PROCEDURE USED TO CREATE THE DATA:. Wing Dam centerlines were digitized on an ALTEK digitizing table using the software ARC/INFO. ARC/INFO software was then used to project the digitized stateplane coordinate coverage to UTM zone 15 coordinates. COMMENTS: None ARC Attribute File Items (AAT) DIKE_NO. This gives the river mile (with river mile 0 at the point where the Ohio and Mississippi rivers meet) plus the side of the river that the wing dam is located. (L for left hand side, R for right hand side while facing downstream). RIVER_MILE This is the distance in miles from the origin where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers meet.
