Digital Geospatial Metadata Report Date: 17-Nov-1997 Data Set Name: Miscellaneous transportation derived from 1:100,000-scale DLGs 1 Identification Information 1.1 Citation Information: 8.1 Originator: Environmental Management Technical Center 8.2 Publication Date: 19971117 8.4 Title: Data derived from 1:100,000-scale DLG's 8.6 Data Presentation Form: ArcView Shape Files 8.8.1 Publication Place: Onalaska, WI 8.8.2 Publisher: Environmental Management Technical Center 8.10 Online Linkage: ftp://ftp.emtc.er.usgs.gov/pub/gis_data/metadata/100k_mt.txt 1.2 Description 1.2.1 Abstract: This coverage contains a comprehensive base map of miscellaneous transportation features (Interstates, U.S. highways, state highways, toll roads, etc.) for an area covered by a 30- x 30-minute USGS quadrangle. The coverage was derived from 1:100,000-scale USGS DLG files and include attribute codes to describe the characteristics of DLG node, line, and area elements. The ARC/INFO coverage retains one or more attribute codes composed of a three-digit major code and a four-digit minor code for each source DLG element. For a complete copy of the USGS metadata for the 1:100,000-scale DLGs, refer to http://edcwww.cr.usgs.gov/nsdi/html/dlg100/dlg100. 1.2.2 Purpose: The dataset provides a base map layer of transportation features for use in providing locational information on map products. 1.3 Time Period Of Content 1.3.1 Currentness Reference: Publication Date 1.4 Status 1.4.1 Progress: Complete 1.4.2 Maintenance and Update Frequency: Irregular 1.5.2.1 West Bounding Coordinate: -97.239 1.5.2.2 East Bounding Coordinate: -80.519 1.5.2.3 North Bounding Coordinate: 49.384 1.5.2.4 South Bounding Coordinate: 36.97 1.6 Keywords 1.6.1.1 Theme Keyword Thesaurus: None 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: DLG 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: digital line graph 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: transportation 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: roads 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: highways 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: interstates 1.6.1.2 Theme Keyword: streets 1.6.3.1 Stratum Keyword Thesaurus: None 1.6.4.1 Temporal Keyword Thesaurus: None 1.8 Access Constraints: None 1.9 Use Constraints: Acknowledgement of the Environmental Management Technical Center would be appreciated in products derived from these data. 1.10 Point of Contact 10.3 Contact Position: GIS Project Coordinator 10.4 Contact Address 10.4.1 Address Type: Mailing and Physical Address 10.4.2 Address: 575 Lester Avenue 10.4.3 City: Onalaska 10.4.4 State or Province: Wisconsin 10.4.5 Postal Code: 54650-8552 10.4.6 Country: USA 10.5 Contact Voice Telephone: (608) 783-7550 10.6 Contact TDD/TTY Telephone: Unavailable 10.7 Contact Facsimile Telephone: (608) 783-8058 10.8 Contact Electronic Mail: metadata_coordinator@emtc.er.usgs.gov 10.9 Hours of Service: 8:00 A.M. Pseudo nodes (nodes between arcs with common attribute values across all non- system attribute files) may exist on some arcs. 2.5.2 Source Information 2.5.2.1 Source Citation: 8.1 Originator: United States Geological Survey 8.2 Publication Date: 19930000 8.4 Title: Various 8.8.1 Publication Place: Reston, VA 8.8.2 Publisher: USGS 2.5.2.2 Source Scale Denominator: 100000 2.5.2.3 Type Of Source Media: Paper 2.5.2.4 Source Time Period Of Content: 2.5.2.4.1 Source Currentness Reference: Ground Condition 2.5.3 Process Step 2.5.3.1 Process Description: These Digital Line Graphs were digitized from the USGS source quadrangles, by either the National Mapping Division, one of their cooperators, or one of their contractors. The digital data were produced by one of the following methods: 1. scanning a stable-based copy of the graphic materials. The scanning process captured the digital data at a scanning resolution of at least 0.001 inches; the resulting raster data were vectorized and then attributed on an interactive editing station. 2. scanning the paper map. The scanning process captured the digital data at a scanning resolution of at least 0.001 inches; the resulting raster data were vectorized and then attributed on an interactive editing station. 3. scanning a stable-based copy of the graphic materials. The resulting raster data were then manually digitized and attributed on an interactive editing station. The resolution of the digital data is at least 0.01 inches. 4. scanning the paper map. The resulting raster data were then manually digitized and attributed on an interactive editing station. The resolution of the digital data is at least 0.001 inches. 5. manually digitizing from a stable-based copy of the graphic material using a digitizing table to capture the digital data at a resolution of at least 0.001 inches; distribution was performed either as the data were digitized, or on an interactive edit station after the digitizing was completed. 6. manually digitizing from the paper map using a digitizing table to capture the digital data at a resolution of at least 0.001 inches; attribution was performed either as the data were digitized, or on an interactive edit station after the digitizing was completed. The determination of the DLG production method was based on various criteria, including feature density, feature symbology, and availability of production systems. Four control points corresponding to the four corners of the quadrangle were used for registration during data collection. An eight parameter projective transformation was performed on the coordinates used in the data collection and editing systems to register the digital data to the internal coordinates used in PROSYS, and a four parameter linear transformation was performed from the PROSYS internal coordinates to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid coordinates. The DLG data were checked for position by one or more of the following processes: - comparing plots of the digital data to the graphic source. - comparing the digital data to the digital raster scan. DLG data classification was checked by at least one of the following processes. - comparing plots of the digital data to the graphic source - comparing the digital data to the digital raster scan. 2.5.3.3 Process Date: 19960415 2.5.3.6 Process Contact: 3 Spatial Data Organization Information 4 Spatial Reference Information 4.1 Horizontal Coordinate System Definition 4.1.2 Planar 4.1.2.2.1 Grid Coordinate System Name: Universal Transverse Mercator(UTM) 4.1.2.2.2.1 UTM Zone Number: 15 4.1.2.1.2.2 Long Of Central Meridian: -93 4.1.2.1.2.3 Latitude Of Projection Origin: 0 4.1.2.1.2.4 False Easting: 500000 4.1.2.1.2.5 False Northing: 0 4.1.2.1.2.17 Scale Factor Central Meridian: .9996 4.1.4.1 Horizontal Datum Name: North American Datum of 1927 4.1.4.2 Ellipsoid Name: Clarke 1866 4.1.4.3 Semi-Major Axis: 6378206.4 4.1.4.4 Denominator of Flattening Ratio: 294.98 5 Entity and Attribute Information 5.2 Overview Description 5.2.1 Entity and Attribute Overview: The coverage was derived from 1:100,000-scale USGS DLG files and include attribute codes to describe the characteristics of DLG node, line, and area elements.
