Swimming speeds have been measured in a number of ways: 1) Timing the movements 
of fish in tanks, culverts, fish passes, or from ships at sea, 2) Measuring the 
speed of lines running out after hooking fish, 3) Cine-photography of fish in 
aquaria, and 4) Measuring the speed of rotation of annular-shaped tanks in which 
fish are kept stationary relative to the ground.
